Modifiers are a collection of items that pop up when the user selects an item to add to the bill. e.g. say a customer requests a Full English Breakfast….your waiter adds it… Napkin EPOS will then give a popup with the ability for you to also choose an ‘Option’ e.g. Scrambled (eggs) or add an ‘Addon’ e.g. 2 x Extra Bacon or a single English Breakfast Tea.
This gives the waitstaff quick access to the most likely choices and also allows them to upsell. In the example above with Kingston Gin, three ‘Options‘ are given. Only one option can be chosen, and one has to be chosen in order to add the Kingston Gin, i.e. it is compulsory. Furthermore when setting up the modifiers, if you add itself as a modifier, and is a checkbox or option the words “Double Up On ” is prefixed to the name. This allows easy inclusion of doubles e.g in Kingston Gin above.
When added to the bill, the modifiers will be grouped with the main item. This will also appear on the customer’s receipt, both printed and email, as well as on the printed order, e.g. that goes to kitchen printer.
There are 3 ways to create modifiers.
- Individual Modifiers
- Modifier Groups
- Report Category Modifiers
Individual Modifiers
To set up or amend Individual Stock Item modifiers, go to <Back Office> <Individual Modifiers>
In the green row, simply enter in the “Item” and the associated “Modifier”. Modifier items, e.g. “Scrambled” are setup as normal <Stock Items> and can have zero price or have a cost associated with it. It will also be factored into the inventory management process.
Add a new line for each modifier needed for a given item, eg ‘Full English Breakfast’ has 7 modifiers, and hence a 7 lines. They don’t need to be next to each other, as the Order column is used to indicate the sequence in which the modifiers are displayed on the popup.
Group Description is used to group together several modifiers for a given item. On the example above, “How do you like your eggs cooked?” Group Description is used for the modifiers “Fried”, “Scrambled” and “Poached”, all of which have Group Type set to “Option”… This means one and only one of those three modifiers will need to be selected by the user when adding a “Full English Breakfast”. Similarly “Tea or Coffee?” on Group Description, groups together 2 “Checkbox” style modifiers of “English Breakfast Tea” and “Filter Coffee”, these are both optional and you can only add one unit of each.
Group Type :
- Checkbox: allows only one unit of the modifier to be added. Optional
- Addon: allows multiple units of the modifier to be added. Optional
- Option: allows only one unit of the modifier to be added, and only one modifier from a given group. Compulsory.
Include on Till is used to switch on and off the modifier for use in-house on the main till by waitstaff.
Include Online is used to switch on and off the modifier for use on the online customer ordering portal under Napkin.co.uk. This column is shown only if your account is enabled for online customer ordering. The modifier on Napkin.co.uk is displayed and setup in the same way as on Napkin EPOS. eg:
Modifier Groups
Rather than setting up modifiers individually for each stock item, it is possible to group Stock Items together into a “Modifier Group” and then assign a set of modifiers to that group. To do so select <Back Office> <Modifier Groups>
Once you created a Modifier Group, you can then map the <Stock Items> to it by clicking on the button on the same line as the Modifier Group.
Similarly clicking on the <Modifiers> button allows you to assign the modifiers associated with the group of Stock Items.
Report Category Modifiers
Lastly you can assign Modifiers to a Report Category. Further details found here.
